Dominic Power is a Consultant Peripheral Nerve Surgeon with more than a decade of experience at the forefront of this newly developed specialty. He worked as a hand and nerve surgeon within the NHS at the Birmingham Hand Centre, as well as the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine treating combat-injured and coalition personnel. He managed to translate this experience to civilian patients, establishing the largest acute peripheral nerve injury unit in the UK. He has developed pioneering techniques for the reconstruction of paralysis, the management of nerve pain and the treatment of spasticity. He continues to lead international research into nerve injuries, being an expert in the field developing technological advances, in addition to lecturing and training surgeons across the world.

Background
Where it all started
Dominic Power studied medicine at Cambridge University and later trained in the fields of orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery. He completed higher specialist training at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in orthopaedic surgery. Further fellowships in hand surgery, microsurgery and peripheral nerve surgery at centres of excellence around the world followed.

Research Lead for Peripheral Nerve, HaPPeN Research Network, as well as position on BSSH Research Committee. Later became one of the founding members of the BROASE collaboration and UK peripheral nerve research network.
